Chapter Sixteen

“Do you think Boron is okay?” Talcen asked. “I have no idea. I'm just glad that monster isn't on our trail anymore,” Ticcen replied, she thought he was always annoying at best and now he almost got all of them killed. The four of them walked down the dark path, nerves still shaken about what they had just gone through.

“Those constructs we saw, that must mean the campgrounds are still active,” Nari said, she wasn't sure about any of it, exactly, but it made sense to her that this was the case. “Yeah. I don't know what's going to happen now that we only have four people in our group. We might be in trouble,” Amanda said in agreement. None of them considered what the results of splitting up might be but now it was the one thing on their mind now that the golem was dealt with.

They took a curve in the road and there sitting in the middle of the path was a bright red, glowing bag. “Well, that's not a trap,” Nari said as they all stopped to look at it. “It might not be a trap, they said some of them wouldn't be a trap. Maybe this is one of those things,” Talcen suggested but he really didn't believe that.

“What are we going to do?” Ticcen asked and they stared at it for a few seconds. “Oh, what the hell, let's open it,” Talcen said and walked forward. The others didn't get any closer. For all they knew it could have been an explosive just waiting to go off or anything else. Talcen stood over it and stared at the bag for a few seconds. He reached down and picked it up. Nothing terrible happened. No explosion, no trap so far. There was something inside but what it was, for now was impossible to tell.

Talcen pulled the string and opened the bag. The string disappeared as it fell to the ground. All the sudden he was extremely nervous about reaching inside of this thing. So, he turned it upside down instead and hoped something horrible didn't fall out.

Something did fall out, something impossible. A black shotgun fell out of it with a note tied to the barrel. Talcen picked the gun up and looked at the note, pulled it off. He opened the note and began to read.

“Hey. You're not good at following directions. The golem will kill all of you. Please take this weapon for defense. It is enchanted with an endless supply of ammo, however it will not stop the golem. It will only slow it down. Get to a safe place and stay there,” Talcen read out loud.

“Do either of you know how to use this thing?” Talcen asked and looked at the two of them. He had no idea. Guns to him were only things that were useful in video games. “I know how to use it,” Amanda said and walked forward. She grabbed the gun and checked it over. “It's a good one,” she said to herself and pumped it once.
